When a child first begins school the amount of information presented to parents can seem daunting, especially if their child has SEND. We have published a number of FAQs posed by parents relating to our school and SEND provision.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
- What is the school’s SEN Policy?
The school’s SEN Policy can be accessed here. SENPolicy2017
2) What steps have been taken to prevent disabled pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils?
Our School is committed to anti-discriminatory practice to promote equality of opportunity, prevent disabled pupils from being treated less favourably and valuing diversity for all children and families. We aim to promote the involvement of all pupils with disabilities in all classroom activities. All staff are following LA and school policies and procedures to support pupils with disabilities and ensure that classrooms have a clear and accessible layout and are communication friendly environments. We aim to ensure that pupils with a disability are able to be fully involved in school life and the curriculum and are offered the opportunity to participate in activities both inside and outside the classroom by making reasonable adjustments. There is a disabled toilet on site.
3) Can I access the facilities?
Yes, we have an accessibility plan in place, which aims to improve access to the physical environment of the school, increase access to the curriculum for pupils with a disability and improve the provision of information to pupils, staff, parents and visitors with disabilities.
4) How are Looked After Children with SEN support?
LAC with SEN are supported in the same way. There will also be extra legal requirements which are outlined in the LAC policy. Looked After Children 2014
5) How do we listen to the views of children and young people with SEND and the measures taken to prevent bullying?

6) How can your staff support my child?
Our staff continue to develop their skills and knowledge to support children with SEND. Our SENCO Miss Overfield has the National Award for SENCOs. We have regular SEN briefings in staff meeting. We have a range of specialist teachers including Music and PE. Ongoing professional development is very important to us.
Staff have received a wide range of training including:
- Autism
- Elkan training
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
- Treetops Occupational Therapy
- Talking Partners
7) How do evaluate outcomes and provision?
Children with SEND have their outcomes and provision evaluated every term alongside parents/carers. This will be done with the class teacher at Parent’s Evening. The SENCO also arranges meetings as and when required.
Evaluation also includes book scrutiny, observations of pupils, talking to pupils, analysing data and speaking with staff.
Intervention programmes are evaluated on a termly basis. Staff keep record sheets during the programme, which shows evidence towards children meeting their outcomes. We also evaluate provision and outcomes through outside agencies, who can provide feedback reports.
