Vision Statement

Excellent education and attitudes leads to choice for all. Our pupils will make positive choices today so they can do the jobs of tomorrow and fulfil our promise for the future.

We know that even at the young age of three or four, children are already starting to form their first aspirations. By six they are starting to have opinions on what they can or cannot do in the future. By the time they are ten, young people start to make decisions which could go on to limit their future options. Therefore we, at Thornhill Primary School, believe that it is vital to provide our children with knowledge about the world of work and to help them to develop a range of skills and aspirations that will benefit their learning and readiness for their future careers.

With this in mind we have developed a careers related learning curriculum and programme of experiences to ensure our pupils have the best possible early knowledge and guidance to help them understand the exciting opportunities that are open to them as possible career options as they grow up.

It is not about our children choosing their future jobs at this very young age, rather it is about helping them to have ambition and high aspirations for themselves. We aim to help them to learn about the wide variety of jobs open to them and the fantastic range of opportunities we have both in our local area and the wider region.

Our children and their parents and carers will also gain a broad understanding of the different routes to get into work and training, including developing the essential skills and attitudes required to be successful in both further study and in the workplace.

We hope that by opening the door into the world of work and letting our children know what is out there, they will go on to have a fulfilling career and make a valuable contribution to society.
